Now and then I think of the movies they saw together
When they were so happy that I could die
Told myself they would be endgame
But she chose the man who sold her for a company
And it’s a love it’s an ache I can’t get over.
I can be addicted to a certain kind of sadness
I choose the OTPs that always end, always end.
So when the Bluckistans made no sense.
I took their bullshit and made new friends.
I don’t know if I’ll ever get the fact that this is over.
THEY DIDN’T HAVE TO CUT ME OFF.
MAKE IT LIKE IT NEVER HAPPENED AND THE BUILDUP WAS NOTHING
IT WAS PURE AND SIMPLE LOVE
BUT SHE DUMPED HIM OVER EMAIL AND IT FEELS SO ROUGH
THE WRITERS DIDN’T HAVE TO STOOP SO LOW
HAVE SERENA SLEEP WITH HIM AND BLAIR LEAVE WITH NO CLOSURE
I GUESS IT’S REALLY OVER THOUGH
SEASON 4 WAS JUST SOMETHING THAT I USED TO KNOW.
Let’s look at the interviews Josh Safran gave just before the show’s return after the mid-season hiatus.
Blair chose Dan over Chuck and then the show went away for more than a month. During that time, what kind of reaction have you gotten? Some people are pretty mad…
The Blair-Dan camp has been as vocal throughout the whole season as they are now. It was not like, “Oh my gosh, she made that choice!” I believe the audience understood that choice was coming, you know? Also, we cannot change where the stories are going now because the finale wraps in three days. It’s that strange thing where you hear from the fans, and some people are very happy and some people are unhappy, and there is really not much you can do about it.
The one thing I can say, though, is that we are very grateful and feel very lucky that people, five seasons in, feel so passionate about these characters and about these relationships. We know that is very rare and we do not treat it lightly. You cannot plan for that. There is no way to engineer that. It’s magic.
You just said it isn’t as though you can change the direction of the story. But would you do anything differently if you could?
I don’t think so, because we are telling the story that we believe in. Obviously, people have different points of view and that is the whole point of… existence. [Laughs.] So we respect and we understand different points of view, but this is the story that we want to tell and that is the story that we are telling.
What’s the split of Dair to Chair fans? 50-50?
I would like to think that. It’s not like we arrived at Dan and Blair because we thought, “Let’s just put them together.” We arrived at Dan and Blair because we felt that is where we were going. I would like to think that there is a larger portion of the audience who understands that. There are people who do not like it and, you know, all I can say to them is I’m sorry.
Getting back to Dair, can you elaborate on the decision to put them together? How far back does it go?
I would like to say all the way back in Episode 4 in Season 1 we knew that they had a connection. We also knew that they were going to be the foils for each other and be aggravated with each other. They would constantly be at odds, but we always knew that when you are at odds, that means there is sort of something underneath, whether you like it or not. We knew that they had this spark and it was there for us to play with, at some point, if we wanted to or not.As the seasons progressed and you saw that relationship deepen, it just became more and more of an understanding between all of the writers that there was something real there between Dan and Blair. Last year, we realized Dan probably had [further] to go to have feelings for Blair because she had been terrible to him for so long, so then came the W magazine story. His feelings awakened first and then were not returned by her — in that moment when she said that she did not feel anything in the kiss, but we knew that he did.
We knew where we were going to go in Season 5 right then. We knew that there was going to come a time where their friendship was only going to deepen and as that friendship deepened, Blair was going to begin to realize that Dan actually had these feelings for her and that was going to actually complicate her life. This season was very much about Blair. Ever since she was a child, we have said since Season 1, she always wanted to be queen, always wanted to be a princess. She finally got that dream this year, and then realized, “Wait a minute, I don’t want this dream at all. Being a princess was not what I thought it was going to be. It’s like Roman Holiday and I am stuck in a box.” Coming out of that dream and into the arms of Dan, that was our goal. Here was this guy who has stood by her and been her friend and supported her. She realizes that he has these really true and honorable feelings for her and only wants what she wants for herself. They found each other.
What’s ahead for Dan and Blair? Will they be happy for a while?
For us it’s been about, we knew we were going to tell the story that Blair has always wanted to be a princess, way back in season one, ever since she was a child, she’s wanted to be a princess. So now that that lifelong dream is gone, she’s able to step back and go, “Wow, that dream is over so what’s my next dream, who am I going to be next?” It’s really allowing her to come into her own and grow in a great way, with Dan by her side, is someone who has always accepted that growth in her.Her relationship with Chuck has always been fraught with a little bit of antagonism, it’s been sexy and also they tried to be there for each other but then things get in the way. And here she finally has a guy who is like, you go off and do what you need to do and I’ll be here. It’s fun to see when she comes back into her own. We have a storyline that’s coming up, that’s one of my favorite storylines ever in all five seasons for Blair. And I think the fans are really going to love. It’s pure vintage Blair.Do you know the endgame for Blair and the others romantically?
Right now we’re only looking at endgame for this season because that’s how we are approaching it. I don’t want to say there is an answer because right now there isn’t actually a question. Blair is with Dan and that’s what it is. But it’s more about what happens when, Dan and Blair’s relationship is going to be challenged because the specter of Chuck is always going to be hanging over it, whether or not he’s even involved in it or not. Because Blair is always going to be aware that Dan knows how much she loved a man before him. And Dan is always going to be aware, even more so, of how tied up they were with each other and how they constantly return to each other at some point, invariably every year. That pressure might seep in and cause some trouble but whether that trouble is insurmountable people will have to wait and see.“People always talk about endgames, but the thing is, if you have have a firm ending set in stone, everything you write runs into that wall,” Safran said. “It has to be done with a shifting, malleable approach.” [Personal note: This is great advice, if only the GG writers were following it]At the same time, Dan “will continue help Blair rediscover Blair in a very sweet, good way,” the EP reminded us, noting that she’s finally broken the parameters of her relationships with Chuck and Louis.Safran says Dan and Blair becoming a couple was the plan all season long, too.”Last spring was the tease,” he admitted. “We knew Dan and Blair were going to get together at some point this season, as Dan’s feelings for her would only grow, and Blair would grow more aware of them.”“Blair gave up her control, her power in becoming a princess. Now that dream is over, for better or worse, and she’s finally breaking free and finding out who she is. And from the beginning, Dan was the one basically saying ‘I’ll be here always, I accept whoever you are.’”Something happened before the finale. I don’t know what but you cannot seriously tell me that they knew Blair would choose Chuck all along because she already made her choice in 5x17.
Proof that the writers fucked us over and will say anything to keep people watching.

BLAIR’S HEART | The former princess may have chosen the Dark Knight, but Chuck was tired of putting her first and losing everything, including his Bass Empire. Still, Blair showed up at a Parisan casino where Chuck was gambling to earn back his fortune. “It was Blair coming to declare that she was in it to win it with Chuck and leaving that [relationship’s future] as the question of Season 6,” previews Savage. And for the Dair ‘shippers out there, we’re afraid we don’t have good news for you. “We crafted the last act of the episode to set us in a certain direction next year,” says Savage. (x)

Dan and Blair through Serena’s eyes.
Little Dair Things: Cell Phones
So this is an entirely different perspective from what I’ve been seeing but everyone’s freaking out about Dan’s I love you and I’m just sitting here absolutely disappointed with this episode. Honestly, I expected so much more from them and this was such a let down. It’s not even about the I love you’s but this episode basically showed me that Dan doesn’t trust Blair, because he had no other reason to turn down the internship but that. Which led to the I love you which was even more disappointing, because you could tell with the way it happened it was more about reassurance than a romantic gesture. Then there’s the fact that Dan flat out lied to Blair’s face about the Rome thing.
If anything, Dan was the disappointing one in this episode. And I’m not about to hate on Dan, because I do understand where the insecurities are coming from but seriously. Hating on Blair? She was honest with him, happy for him when he told her about Rome and at the end of the episode… you heard her didn’t you? She was going to tell Dan all about her day/night. So what the hell did she do wrong? IMO I don’t think it’s fair to hate on her if she’s not ready to say I love you for whatever reason.
